Positive Discipline
At Leonardo Academy, we strongly believe in the beneficial impact of positive discipline on our students’ populations. “Positive Discipline is designed to teach young people to become responsible, respectful, and resourceful members of their communities. Positive Discipline teaches important social and life skills in a manner that is deeply respectful and encouraging for both children”, Dr. Jane Nelsen.

Our Philosophy
Leonardo da Vinci International Academy is a nondenominational, international preschool welcoming children from the age of 2 and a half up to Kindergarten
Helping Your Child Explore, Grow, & Learn
Our curriculum, thoughtfully designed to meet each child at his or her individual level, guides our preschool and Kindergarten students through the full spectrum of childhood development inspired by the significant work of Maria Montessori, and brain-based research developed by Celine Alvarez while incorporating research-based approaches such as interdisciplinary based project and social-emotional learning.
Our school promotes the deepest kind of learning by encouraging children to become self-directed learners who explore, develop curiosity, and solve problems in a fun and engaging environment. Through developmentally appropriate activities, students are encouraged to learn at their own pace, build their math and literacy competency, develop gross and fine motor skills, social-emotional learning, and world awareness.
Embracing Leonardo da Vinci’s multiple intelligences — he was a mathematician, painter, sculptor, inventor, musician, writer, and engineer– we see each child with its own unique set of skills, needs, learning style, and abilities.
Our curriculum offers a customized approach where each and every child develop his/her talents and full potential in a positive, loving, fun, safe and supportive environment. In addition to classroom routines, academic and special offerings include literacy, math, world languages (French and Spanish), STEAM, social and emotional learning, nature exposure, creative movement, art, physical education, and cooking.
Our ethos
World Language
Research demonstrates that learning a foreign language has numerous benefits including better literacy, math, and multi-tasking abilities, flexibility, confidence, and empathy.
Our native speaker teachers provide the acquisition of the language and culture through stories, songs, games, arts, and cooking.
Students can choose French or Spanish.
Social & Emotional Learning
Children grow in confidence and self-awareness as they develop the ability to work productively on their own and as members of a group.
Our program helps students learn about their emotions and manage them, cultivate caring relationships and resolve conflicts.
Students learn and practice interpersonal skills such as using their words, listening to one another, respecting or sharing.
STEM
Whether engaged in a science experiment or engineering project, children are exposed to STEAM through interdisciplinary projects to develop their critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and teamwork.
Students inquire, plan, predict, observe, analyze in order to develop a deeper understanding of the concepts.
Nature & Outdoor Education
Nature-based education connects awareness of self, family, community, and the natural world through the development of personal and social responsibility.
We create varied opportunities for children to explore natural objects, to help children develop a better sense of self as they explore nature, and to recognize oneself as part of a broader community.
Art, literacy, science, early math, and social-emotional learning are taught through real-world interactions using an inquiry based learning model in a natural setting.
